Guiding Values For The Greenfield Alliance Church (GAC) Community

We are a community of Kingdom-minded Jesus-followers who value compassion, humility, integrity and excellence. We define these values as follows:

Kingdom-minded – having a mindset that is focused upon, and seeks to expand, the work of the Kingdom of God beyond our own sphere of responsibility or participation.

This means that:

  • We view our church’s ministry as part of, and interconnected with, the broader Kingdom work that God is doing across the globe, and across the ages.
  • We, as a community, are actively engaged in supporting, partnering with, praying for, and/or even participating in, the work of the Kingdom of God beyond our church, beyond the Pioneer Valley, beyond New England, and/or even globally
    beyond the United States.

Compassion – having a deep sense of sympathy for the needs/suffering of others and being willing to intervene on their behalf to meet the need or alleviate their suffering. Compassion can manifest itself in us being kind, caring, generous, gracious, hospitable, and/or gentle to others.

This means that:

  • We, as a community, will continuously look for ways to intervene on behalf of those who are suffering and in need. We will strive to be kind, caring, gentle, gracious, welcoming and generous, in how we treat and respond to others.

Humility – a demonstrated sense of modesty and meekness, devoid of arrogance or pride or pretense.

This means that:

  • We, as a community, will show respect and regard for decencies, and will demonstrate moral excellence and moral conformity, not seeking to draw attention to ourselves for self-promotion or self-gain, nor seeking after that which puffs us up.

Integrity – faithful adherence to an established standard of moral or ethical principle or measure. Integrity can manifest itself in us being trustworthy, being truthful, being honorable, being faithful, being authentic, and/or using discretion.

This means that:

  • We, as a community, will continuously strive to be a group of Jesus-followers who can be trusted, who speak truthfully, who keep our promises, who are authentic, and who keep confidences and use good judgment.

Excellence – of the highest quality, of an outstanding or superior nature.

This means that:

  • We, as a community, will continuously strive to provide, as best as we are able, the highest level of effort and quality in each ministry, function, activity and responsibility that we partake in, for the work of the Kingdom. We will not sacrifice quality for expediency. If we cannot provide, present or implement something with a high level of quality, we will not provide it. If we cannot continuously provide a
high level of quality in something that we are involved in, then we will scale back or discontinue our involvement in it.
  • As a result, instead of trying to be “all things to all people”, we will focus our attentions on a few key ministry areas and do them with excellence.
